As part of Leinster Rugby’s affiliate charity initiative, throughout January we will bring you details from each county about local causes that received support from the 2020 ‘Begin Together’ Community Fund.In Kilkenny, two grantees received support from Bank of Ireland for projects enabling physical and mental wellbeing. As the only cancer support centre in the county, Cois Nore provides compassionate, practical and emotional support to those dealing with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis and to their families. The centre is aware of the need for services to support children living with cancer within their family and wants to introduce supports that allow children to work through this difficult time with a group of their peers.Their project ‘Children Coping with Cancer’ is a tailored service for children, aged 5-12 years old, which will help them to express their fears and acquire coping skills to help them deal with their feelings. The second grantee is Twilight Community Group which works with immigrants, ethnic minorities, disadvantaged and disability groups, to foster social inclusion.Activities include organizing and providing support for education, exchange programme, festivals, exhibitions, workshops, arts training, performances and other cultural events. With the Begin Together funding, the group will deliver a physical wellbeing programme aimed at the migrant community in the area. Activities will be both physical and information-based, will be open to all ages and designed to stimulate social interaction.Bank of Ireland’s Begin Together Community Fund will reopen for applications in the spring and works alongside Begin Together Arts Fund, and Begin Together Fund for Colleagues, as part of a multi-year commitment from Bank of Ireland to support communities and local charities. To find out more information about Cois Nore, visit their website coisnore.ie or follow them on Twitter. To find out more information about Twilight Community Group, visit their Facebook or follow them on Twitter. www.twilight.ieFind out more about the ways Bank of Ireland supports communities at bankofireland.com/begintogether.
